报告内容简介:

This study explores a novel nanoengineering technique, Poptube technology, and to use this method to manufacture hierarchical, multifunctional structure composites with superior mechanical performance and durability. The PopTube technology is a novel approach to fast grown CNTs on reinforcing fibers in large volume in ambient environment with no need of any inert gas protection, and additional feed stock gases, typically required in chemical vapor deposition (CVD) approach. Experimental studies have revealed that the interlaminar fracture toughness of composite laminates can be significantly enhanced by this technology. Single fiber testing shows that damage to the fibers/fabrics caused by PopTube Technology is insignificant. Compared with existing CVD method, PopTube technology enjoys many advantages. Itrequires very simple equipment, can be easily scaled up for large-scale manufacture, andis highly energy-efficient andcost-effective. PopTube Technologyhas great potential to enable large-scale application of CNTs in nest generation multiscale, multifunctional structural composites.

报告人简介:

Dr. Jialai Wang is an associate Professor of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at The University of Alabama,Tuscaloosa,AL,USA. He earned his Ph.D. in structural engineering and materials under the supervision of Professor Pizhong Qiao from The University of Akron, Ohio, USA, in 2003. His research integrates knowledge and techniques in chemistry, material science, nanotechnology, and solid mechanics into material innovation to enhance the resilience and sustainability of physical infrastructure. His current research focuses on design, synthesis and characterization of low and non-clinker cementitious materials, carbon nanotube reinforced hierarchical hybrid composites, and deterioration science of bi-material interface. Dr. Wang currently serves as PI for five research projects sponsored by NSF and NASA. Wang has published over 47 research articles in peer-reviewed international journals.
