报告主要内容:
In the past few decades, cognitive and corpus linguistics have emerged as arguably the two most influential contemporary linguistic approaches with significant impact on language research and language learning/teaching. This talk discusses how the two approaches can inspire and inform language teaching (especially the teaching of lexicogrammar), making it more engaging and effective. The talk consists of the following: 1) a quick overview of the key theoretical tenets of the two linguistic approaches in comparison with those of traditional linguistic approaches; 2) a demonstration of specific examples of cognitive-inspired and corpus-informed teaching of some important but difficult-to-explain lexicogrammatical issues/usages and cross-register differences (including issues of word collocations, countable-versus-uncountable nouns, modal verbs, prepositions, and synonyms), showcasing how these difficult lexicogrammatical usages are motivated, rather than arbitrary as has been traditionally portrayed; and 3) a brief discussion of some successful principles as well as challenges for such teaching and strategies for overcoming the challenges involved.
